Doesn't matter if you're using RO or not, you're float is still sitting in salt water. Try soaking it in water and vinegar for a bit, just to be sure it's completely clean. Have you checked the plug for the sensor to make sure it's not loose, I know mine has done that.

I will try cleaning it in vinegar / for now it looks like I may of solved the problem as I noticed the lift pump I am using was a little slow so I blew it out and it is pulling more water now and everything apears to be back to normal... I will clean the sensor just in case ....

Just wondering it that little aqua lifter pump is a little to small / may be the root cause |

it aqua lifter is too small, wont work properly with the ATO. the ATO will time out before it pumps enough water.

I had the same trouble - and it was the aqua-lifter that was the problem. The ATO has a fail-safe feature in it. It prevents the ATO from running on if the sensor gets jammed "up". I think the default setting is like 5 minutes, and can be adjusted up to 10, but its been so long now I don't remember exactly the length the time out is. Once the time out has kicked in, it won't start up again without being shut off/on. You can set the time out if you take the cover off. Once I put a proper pump on the ATO, it has worked slick ever since. I'm pretty sure I found a manual online which detailed this, but I can't find it or the link now. But if you put a faster pump on that sucker, I am sure it will work for ya.
