Are the gills moving equally or does one side open and close more than the other?

If so, it could be worms and you will need to treat them.

They look like they are moving at the same time. Could i treat them for worms anyways? would there be any harm in this? and if so how would i go about doing this?

Perhaps post a pic first.

You will need a Hospital tank to treat for worms otherwise you will kill off the benificial worms and bacteria in your tank.

The harm is that any time you net a fish and medicate them its stressful on them.
