The fear of PLUMBING

I need help. I am soon to plumb my 180 to my basement sump. First though is that it's going to a frag tank. I can't go wrong with this because I RENT.

My overflow has one 1.5" drain out. And there is a same sized return, again, just one hole (1.5). I am priv to flexable PVC.

Would like opinions and advice on plumbing do's and dont's. Pro's and con's...

I know that the fittings to these particular bulkheads are required to fit inside, and I really don't know what I'm talking about, so ... help? Please? With sugar on top?

#1.. since you rent make sure you have the owners permission IN WRITING

Make sure the sump will hold the volume of water drained when the return pump is turned off. And vice versa, that the tank will hold the water volume from the return section of the sump in the event of a plugged drain. Drilling a 1/4" hole in the return line(s) just below the water level in the DT will ensure a siphon break. Plumb-in gate valves on drain lines and return lines for easy tweaking of flows.

Avoid L's in your drain pipe after the bulkhead. Any accidental bump on the horizontal section of drainpipe after the L can put a lot of torque on the bulkhead, leading to a leak.

I think gate valves are the way to go, but I wondered if the components are brass ... this might conflict with saltwater no? I also heard rumor that to some that any 90 degree angle adds to slowing down the, er... it just slows the water movement. I wouldn't want to add strain to the pipe circulation situation, ultimately lining me up with joint weakness and maybe eventually a pop off. ...

We'll never deal with any pressures that make that a risk. That is good advice about not bumping the plumbing. An unmolested bulkhead is a happy bulkhead.

The PVC gate valves with the big wheel you turn...all plastic so no worries. They're just silly expensive.

I'd make the second 1.5" hole an emergency drain in case the first gets plugged. Then you can do a herbie setup. I'd just run my return up and over the top no need to tie up that precious hole when you only have 2.
