you don't need a reflector-leds are directional-you would actually be making yourself a spotlight-which would light up an area about 2-3 times the size of the bulb-depending on the height from your tank

Okay, I see what you are getting at. I just tested the light and I seem to get about a 3 foot spread when it hangs 2 feet above the tank. It has some kinda of a lens on each LED to help diffuse it over a larger area.
