I still leave the skimmer access panel open so it breathes a little better. I'm not very impressed with the skimmer.. Maybe it's that I do not have the patience to let it break in. Cameron has one and seems happy with the skimmer, but I yanked mine and put a tunze nano skimmer in. I have a little bubble magus in a cube tank that skims like a muther, and I'm sure it would fit in the rsm just fine, also euroreef has a nano skimmer they claim fits..

It's very quiet, but it has a better weir so you really do hear when it wants water. Also it has regular t5 lamps so you don't need to buy the special ones.
