Default What could I keep under these lights.

Hi all,

Yet more questions. OK I've had to reduce the size of my planned reef from 200 gallons to 90 gallons. This is due to a good chance I will have to break it down and move it in 3 years. Right now I am looking at making my tank either 48L x 24W x 18D or 48L x 18W x24D and am concidering the light system here http://www.jlaquatics.com/cgi-bin/sh...gno=pc-al48260 . Due to the confined location of the planned tank, I was concerned about having to do some house rewiring and heat issues for MH's (hard to vent heat) Does anyone have a similar set up? I figure I can keep most soft and lps's but how would sps's do under this light? Once I get the lights figured out, I'll be back to ask about filtration. I already have a few ideas kickin around the ol' melon!

Ken, I'd say in general most SPS won't do well under those lights. They may live, and some might grow if near the surface, but not really SPS lights. The softies and LPS should do well though. BTW, many people will suggest not combining SPS and softies, so that might be something to concider also.

Thanks Brad, it's always nice to have the information BEFORE one purchases equiptment. I'll have to give more thought and plan out exactly what I want for corals before I purchase PC's. I could make my trial 20 gallon tank a sps tank as it will be in an area I could put a MH on it. I wonder if I could convince my wife to let me put the larger tank in the main living room area of our house, that way I could put in MH no problem. "SLAP" Yup that's the sound of me being smacked back down to reality.

Nice to see I'm not the only one who is spousally challenged, although I found that after I suggested my wife take over our third bedroom for her hobbies all the sudden she was more lenient towards my aquatic endevours.

one thing to add to this some LPS have high light demands also and under PC will never look up to there full potential.

Yup I have noticed that on J&L site. Nice of them to have suggested lighting, current ect. don't you think?? I think I have a few picked out for the future. I do have one question, I can't seem to find much information on anenamies and their requirements. Anyone got a suggestion for a rookie reefer with a newer smaller (20g) tank and just how stable should the water perameters be. I'd like to get a perc or false perc to host in one sometime down the road.

Well I found I've gotten more aquarium leeway with the wife by making a donation to the SPCA.

I posted a link to a great ANEMONE FAQ a few weeks ago. It was in three dawgs' thread about anemone dying or something. Really good info.
