Filter socks work best for me.

Can't do filter sock's on m sump inputs as they are to hard to get to in order to change. All the chambers in my sump have good surface agitation. Already use coral snow.

maybe temporarily wrap some filter floss around a couple powerheads and then when satisfied with clarity, remove the floss.

I don't have any power heads in my tank, but I think I might try putting a sponge or two in the return compartment of my sump. Just an idea I was thinking of. Any other idea's out there.
