I'm in Red Deer, but I'm not a reefer yet - I only own 90 gallons of salt water and 60 lbs of live rock. It is the plan though!

That's were you start. I started by buying a used complete system. Now I Have a 155 Bow Front, picking up a 75 corner (new pred tank) and 45 hex (seahorse tank) tommorow. Also have a 15 gal hex, 2 - 30 gal, 40 gal tall hex, 64 gal, 55 gal FW and a 125 gal FW. Got to sell the 40 tall & 65 gal (both empty)and atleast one or both 30 gal (temp tanks for preds) just to many tanks.

Well don't waste your time and money at the LFS here in Red Deer, price's are to high, stock quality is low and the knowledge is non-existent.

If you are in Calgary you need to go to RED CORAL, Kevin & Doug are the bomb, Gold's, Ocean City and Wei's are great to in my opinion.

As for Edmonton, BLUE WATER is my favorite place but have not been to the new one Aquagiant yet.

There are also some GREAT online shop's as well, The Reef Shoppe (Kelly) AWESOME, J&L and Coral Master's just to name a few.

check out my build thread on my 8' 165 gal tank and see what I did. See if you are looking for the same kind of reef it might help.

http://www.canreef.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=60533

Then we will talk to see what you figure you want to do.

Lighting really depends on what you want to keep. I would look at what you really want for you tank, and build around that. What are you most interested in keeping?
