I had the same problem with my new 24 gal. I took as much off the glass as I could as well as well as cleaned up the sand, used a net to collect as much from the water as I could. Then I added my CUC it was the recomended size from J&L plus a few other things. Likely over kill but all algea was gone in 3days.
