So...ran out of regent for the Elos ALK kit and used my Salifert kit tonight instead.

It came up with 7. Don't know how accurate this is but most of the corals looked great again tonight.

Anyone know how trust worthy the Salifert ALK kit is? I have been told not to use it in the past as its very inaccurate...

well since I have been using the marin fauna, CLaude from germany is saying that Salifirt is off by 2 PPm , i dont believe that. so its actually saying that your ALK is 5 instead of 7, i think that is a crock IMO
I have been using them for years and have had great sucess with them

Doesn't matter how much you have been reading until you take the plunge.
You don't know as much as you think.

Ok, well this morning when I tested with the Elos, it was 6.5

I don't think it would have dropped to 5 today especially since I dosed two part.

I am on the fence about getting the Elos kit again. Not because I don't like it but man its a joke how few tests it does for that price.

I think once my ALK is stable and the tank looks good, I will keep using the salifert test to keep levels where they are, based on the salifert reading.

I've been using Salifert for Alk and Mag... Elos for CA, NH4, NO2, NO3, PH.. I prefer working with the Sali's, but think they are both as accurate as I need...

Ya I agree. I think for now I will keep using the Salifert since its almost full still and I don't want to buy the Elos kit again.

Always something...

My tusk decided to try to eat a very large Bristle worm I think. Looks like he bit a cactus

I moved a rock today and out floats a huge bristle worm. About 10 minutes later, 'Hades' comes begging for food with dozens of tiny little 'prickles' stuck in his head, all around his mouth

I was kind of worried but he doesn't seem to care. Hes in rough shape though between the bristles stuck in his head and his shredded tail from the Hippo Tang's continued abuse.

Poor guy! The Hippo still won't leave him alone eh? I was hoping your big Sailfin would maybe put the Hippo in his place.

Well after the Sailfin went in the tank, the Hippo seemed to calm down and behave for almost a week. Now all of a sudden though he is back to being a bit of a bully

The Hippo has also taken a few shots at the much larger Sailfin too who just runs and hides as well. Kind of annoys me because now I think the Hippo has seen all the other fish in the tank defer to him and he is back to king of the tank. No fish seems to want to put him in his place.

As things are now, I will let it go a bit longer. If it gets worse though, the Hippo will have to go. I just hope it gets better...I would hate to loose the hippo.

The strangest thing about all this is that *knock on wood* I haven't seen ich on any of the fish since the Sailfin went into the tank. Its actually weird to see the hippo without spots
