The flow rate thru the sterilizer has to be much slower than recommended for it to be effective, and the bulb should be changed about every three to four months for it to be of any use, I have installed close to a dozen sterilizers for pond and tank owners and they have all proven beneficial. Most notably was a 6000 gal pond, prior to installation water was so green you could only see in a couple inches, a week after installing sterilizer you could count the grains of sand on the bottom of the pond (6 ft deep)
