I was surprised to read it so I thought I'd share my experience as it was pretty much the exact opposite.

I ran a couple of hydor rotating thingys for about a year with no problems. Then things started going south pretty quickly with them and they stopped rotating no matter what I did. It seems that the rotating mechanism, which involves a lot of little plastic gears, has some pretty tight tolerances and if something is out by just a little bit as the result of wear the whole thing stops.
