well basically what remote ballast means is the part that gets really hot isn't near the tank (best for small tanks) and yes it should be fine for a 10G it has a built in fan, and keeps rather cool. its working right now on a indoor garden. the bulb could probably use a change in a month or 3... depending on what you want to keep. but its plug and play. good enough light for clams and sps.
