No and mine looked awesome as well for the first 10 days.
The place I got them from is reputable and I don't think it is something that they did or are aware of if it was cyanide.
The only other thing that i could see that would be a problem would be low oxygen, but that would be for the 2nd one as the first one that was defiantly not the case.
Looks like I will never know what really happened.
But then that is part of the risk we pay for having a hobby like this.
I really wanted one of these, but don't think I will try a third.

This is the worst part of this hobby… The “so why did it die?”

I had a yellow-head jaw fish several months ago that one day darted to the back of the tank and I never saw it again. I will never know what happened…

I can’t keep bubble coral. Not in my nano, or my 55. It just dies, every time.

I understand your frustration… I'm really sorry about your blue spots.

Looking at your location, I would guess it was the nearest of the LFS to you that you purchased it from?
I shop there frequently and am always very careful when selecting livestock.

There is a small possibility that you have terrible luck and these 2 fish were either at the end of their life cycles or underwent significant stress before you gave them a good home....

I hate these reef mysteries and it's rough to lose such cool fish and not know why even aside fromt he monetary cost.

Good luck on putting this puzzle together.

I'm on my 3d now......and I am happy that I took the chance again....they are so much fun, and so interactive. My first one carpet surfed...second one we put in we had covered the tank so he couldn't jump out and then one day he was just gone...never found him on the floor, overflow or sump...so this one is in my RSM which of course is completely covered and he is doing very very well. I got him from J&L and am very happy I took that "final" chance! Sorry to hear about your 2 losses.

I had one of these on hold at JL, it was the last one of their previous shipment and it jumped out of their tank the night before I went to pick it up.
I took it as a sign, as my 72 is open top all the way.

Blue spot jawfish come from the Sea Of Cortez, cyanide collection is not an issue there.

This is why I asked you what was in the Safeguard stuff. Formalin and similar compounds can seriously magnify this problem.

You probably will never know for sure but IMO Blue Spot Jawfish are hardy animals, I'm surprised this happened to you.

well tell JL, not me...
I am in full agreeance with you man....lol

This fish is too sexy to come to such an end.
I really hope you figure out what was happening so that you can get another one, it's obviously a fish you liked and cared for.
