![]() A friend of mine is trying to get me to take on his large clam.
I have a couple smaller ones right know (6" APPROX) His large one however measures about 12"widex16"longx10"high. Any advice on care or transportation for this badboy if I take it on. I have 250w mhs in a 24" deep tank, which it could be place right under it. Also, it would be placed close to my tube anemone, which flares out at night. But from what I see with my current clams right now, they don't seem to be bothered by neighbouring stinging corals.

![]() What type is it? Gigas? Deresa? Anyays, you've got plenty of light, but do you have the real estate in your display? how old & how is your system set up? In a stable /maintained set up you should be fine, just note you're adding a good chunk of bioload to your system. Good luck & oh yes, PICS!
How far will you have to travel with him? Your methods could be as high tech as a empty salt bucket or a insulated cooler.

![]() Its a gigas. The tank it might go in is over 4 years going. Just not sure if I want to sacrifice space for the clam. I'll post a pic if I get it this weekend.

![]() I picked up a Squamosa from a friend with similar dimensions and we just sunk a IO salt pail into his tank moved the clam to the bottom of it then dumped out about 1/2 the pail. Keeping the clam submerged at all times.
I just set it on the front floor of my car with the heat on for the ride home. His tank params were pretty close to mine so I did a short drip (replaced most of his water) then slowly dropped the bucket into my tank and pulled out the clam. Just put the bucket in slow so the displaced water can go through the overflow to the sump and not to the floor. |
