This seems like a yearly thing. I love rum (Appleton's to be exact). So I'm happy to celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day every year. Apparently it started among a couple of friends in the US. Then got some news paper columnists attention and went off from there.

It IS a yearly thing. I don't know how long it's been going on for, but it's been years since I first heard of it.

okay, so this pirate who has a ships steering wheel in his pants walks into a bar and orders a drink (rum obviously). the barkeep looks at him weird and asks the question. "so... why do you have a ship's wheel in your pants?" and the pirate replies, "arrr, it's drivin' me nuts."
