![]() Hi
I read the diy on denitrifiers apparatus and was wondering this. If yo have a fluval 105 filter why could you not remove all 'filter' media, add bio balls and run that as denitrifier? It might take a while longer to 'cycle' in but I can't see why it wouldn't work. ( I am new to Saltwater by the way) Jim |

![]() You would need to ensure that this was a low-oxygen environment somehow. Just changing the media won't do it.

![]() Agreed. The Bioballs will actually create Nitrates. Not remove them.

![]() I packed my xp1 with live rock rubble and smaller pieces and am running it on a 30 gallon with a prizm pro hob skimmer with next to no nitrate.

![]() The coil Denitrator works, because it goes through so slowly, that the oxygen is depleted before the water even fills the canister,
then the output of it @ 2 drops / sec on average, is roughly 60 Gallons . day |
