if you take the collection cup right out and on the side where the intake tube comes in and points down, over this you take a full square of paper towel and fold it up tightly so it fits just over top of this pipe and just below the collection cup. then i just replace the paper towel each time i clean the cup because the towel gets all wet. i initially tried with a sponge but the paper towel does a way better job.

I've been using this mod on mine for a long time now. It find it works best if I moisten the paper towel before putting it in.. blocks out much more sound.
