Default Dale,fill us in !

Hiya Dale,

I was wondering about those poison dart frogs.
Is that how they actually catch their prey,by shooting them ?

Dangerous to handle?

Do you have a terrarium devoted to these fella`s?

How is the moisture given to their home....Misters?

Sounds kinda cool,

Actually the bushmen secreted the poison from the skin of the Frogs and then just dipped the darts/arrows in the poison, hence the name "Poison Dart Frogs". Not very dangerous to handle safely. I belive they lose there potentcy in captivity. They are quite pricey... well I guess not compared to this hobby . Moisture is maitained by a a little gimick that creates a constant moisture that kinda looks like fog, or you can just use a spray bottle in some cases. I've kept quite a few different Reptiles and Amphibians included one very nicely coloured Pac-man Frog.

Marc

I have a terrarium for them set up. Just don't have the frogs yet. Can't decide on which species to get. Their pricey little buggers, from about $40 to several hundred dollars. We just sold one the other day for $150.

They got their name just the way Mak said. They tend to be less toxic in captivity, but, most people will tell you to still be carefull about handling them.

Right now I am just using a spray bottle to add moisture to the tank. In the future I would like to set up a big terrarium and try a misting system.

I've been eyeing my 135 gallon reef tank downstairs thinking it would make a nice big terrarium. :?

I breed red eye tree frogs as a sidenote. I also have a few dendrobates, waxy monkeys, mantellas, tiger legs, glass frogs, giant flying frogs, paraguay dwarf toads, Im looking to start breeding azerus.
So I guess you could say I have a thing for frogs. Anyone know a good cricket supplier on the westcoast???

Cool,

Ive always loved that stuff too, Many moons ago i had 3 iguanas and a large Golden Tagu.

I had to drop it, because the vegatable for the iguanas would stink something nasty only after a day in a 85 degree moist terrarium.

Even though they actually were litter trained the lil buggers would expel salty snot from there nose and stain their glass and everything else i had when i let them out to roam.

Hey,now maybe i could put a Marine Iguana from the Galapagos Islands in my reef and have the best of both worlds.

Thanks Guys,Interesting.
