Bought some from riverfront, they called it travistine (not sure if thats how to spell it)

Yeah thats it. I'ts just white colored porous looking rock. I bought maybe 5 or 6 pounds and the rest of my tank will be made up of LR.

The wikipedia image doesn't look very porous.

rory read the rest of the info in that link........ it states that it is quite porus....... there must be different types of this rock cause it calles it a different name (the porus stuff)..... but i agree the pic doesnot look porus at all......

Indeed! I was looking at the picture, and MikeP said his was porous I would be curious to see some pics.

Alternatives to pulling rock out of the oceans are always good, especially calcium carbonate sources.

Travertine is a compact calcium carbonate used as a facing material in construction.
