Yup, Chin Lee & I have also used them with very good results. i have 7 clip-on desk lights using the 27w Phillips Daylight bulbs ($12.99 for 2 @ HD right now) over my 160g fw planted tank & it works great, even for high light plants like red tiger lotus lilies.

Petsmart has some of the aquagro lights running $8 to $20. May not be the cheapest but may be convenient.

How many bulbs would I need to get sufficient light on a 20 gallon fuge. 27 watts doesn't seem like very much light.

i use one 23 watt bulb over my 27 gallon fuge, seems like more than enough light , i also run lite 24/7.
