how should I polish water

I have small particles floating around the tank i would like to get a clearer water look should i add a charcoal filter along my filter floss or add purgen ?? seachem product in a media bag and put it in the sump or any other ideas. other than putting a extra filter ie rena or fluval cannister on.

Also this maybe a goofy question but how do I know if i have pods etc in my tank for feeding some of the stuff floating around is just mini ??

I'd try a canister filter with a micron filter in it. Worked very well for me, but the micron filter got plugged within a just few days. Does an awesome job if you don't mind cleaning it out once a week.

oh wait, just realized you don't want to add a canister filter...

hmm, I've heard good things about purigen. and it's rechargeable too!

You could try adding filter floss in one of the first chambers of your sump. You will have to change it out every week or so. If you mix in any thing like DT's, reef chilli or cyclop-eeze you should pull it out for a couple of hours so it can all get eaten by your corals. Hope this helps.

For best results, filter floss should be at the end of your sump, right before carbon, that way it has the opportunity to get the smaller particles you're talking about. It should go:

coarser foam, finer foam, filter floss, carbon (purigen is a better option, not only because it is rechargable, but because it leaves elements in that carbon pulls out).

This type of setup would ensure each section is maximized according to what it is meant to do. HTH

I live and die by this stuff.....my water is night and day after I put in fresh bags. I use foam in my sump between by baffles on one side for heavy particles and then the bags of chemipure on the other side of the baffles for fine particles and to polish.

if you have particles floating in your water no chemical is going to remove that. it needs to be done mechanically with either filter floss or better yet a micron filter bag that you hang in the sump return. the filter sock/bag needs to go into the washer every 3-4 days but does an amazing job keeping particles out of the water column.

as for pods you should see them at night scurrying around the rockwork if you look with a flashlight. they will be noticeable if you have any.

No it won't. I agree.
But Chemi Pure does "polish" the water and it does provide a "clearer water look".
