I have a 70g, and I started w/ 2 seio820's and the sump return (~1200gph) I took one of the seios out and sold it because it was truly too much flow. In the "jet" config, they have a lot of throw in a 4' tank.
As far as which brand, I've only used Sieo and I love it.
