Default 250w bulb on 400w ballast

Hi a friend of mine give me a MH ballast which is rated for 400W. Then I buy a 400w bulb off ebay but the seller send me a wrong bulb he send me a 250W and I am having a hard time contacting the guy so instead wasting my time contacting the guy can I just use the 250 bulb on a 400w ballast? I have ask my friend but he told he don't know.

Short answer is no, you can't run the bulb on that ballast. Sorry..
