Default Scary Super Skimmer

Almost burnt my house down. It somehow started dripping through the night and filled the power bar with water. Came up this morning to see it smoking and down about 5 gallons of water. The unit is not leaking by the looks of it and although I would have looked a bit more carefully I was freaking out!

Any suggestions on what it could be?

Word of caution...always use a drip loop for you power cords and mount your power bar in an elevated spot. Gravity is a wonderful thing.

No offence, but why would you have your power bar under your skimmer? That's just a recipe for disaster.

1. GFI
2. Mount the power bars high up inside the stand.
3. Drip loops on all cords.

I had issues with a leak a while back as well. I thought it was my sump but after a long time investigating the problem, I discovered that it was actually not at leaking sump. It was a combo of the splash the water creates as it enters my sump from up top, and the splash from the stand pipe that runs off of the skimmer. It doesn't look like much could happen but over the course of a few days the drops add up. I had to tack up splash guards (pieces of clear shower curtain) around my sump to prevent it, problem solved.
