I use the bulk filter pads...easier to change out, don't have to wash them.

The mesh socks seem to pull less out than felt socks, even if they are 100 micron. They are much easier to wash though - you can wash them by hand. The felt socks need to be washed in a machine with hot water (no soap) and bleach if you want.
