Sounds like Marine Velvet. YIKES! Hence you saying it was like dust all over them. Yup that sounds like velvet! Very hard to tell signs & usually a month parasite cycle complete and fish all passed.

Damn I hate diseases. To be on the safe side. I would leave your tank fowl without fish for 6 weeks & QT everything IMO. I learned the hard way.
