I've done it myself and know of alot of others who have done the same. It might take a couple of tries but it does work. You've got nothing to lose in trying. Google it if you dont believe me.

Was also told you can put a toothpick in the fan to get it to overheat as well.
I might try this yet if I can't find a good repair place... As I understand it... RROD is an overheating problem. The unit heats up and some soldering inside melted apart causing a loss of connection. The solution is apparently quite simple... they call it 'reflowing' the solder on the chips, but they basically melt where ever the loss of connectivity and re-solder it back together. So instead of diagnosing where the bad soldering is... purposely overheating the unit does a general melt and hopes the soldering settles correctly.
