Silicone the first baffle (10" or so tall) to the bottom of the tank so that there is a big enough skimmer "box" for your skimmer sit inside. That will create a stable water level for the skimmer to operate. Then say 2' away, add a second baffle one inch off the bottom so the water can flow under & keep the bubbles away from the return pump. That's how I build all my sumps. You can add more baffles but in a 5' sump, not necessary. Fill the second chamber between the baffles with chaeto & rock & the bubbles will get trapped.
