Default DIY tank

I was thinking that it's way to expensive and risky to build a wooden tank, then I got thinking, what about if I built a tank with 1/2 ply, 2x4 reinforcments but instead of doing the inside of the tank with 2 part epoxy etc, maybe I could do it with 1/4 inch acrylic. I'm not planning on a large tank but for a 120 gallon reef ready I'd be looking at $600, I could use 1/2 inch plexi for the front (would that be thick enough?)

So my idea is, build a 3 sided box with a bottom, run 2x4s up and down on the sides and then across the back, and bottom (across being length wise). Then simply insert 1/4 inch acrylic to fill in the box, glue it up.. etc etc etc..

Any input?

Doug
