Default critters for alage removal

there are many things i can improve to get rid of my algae but I am wondering who uses snails and crabs at the density of the "recommended" 1-3 per gallon??

Most online sources say something around that number when selling "algae clean up crews"

I have 2 asteria snails and about 5 big hermits in a 70g I don't think that is enough. I have zero algae eating fish.

Should i get a rabbit fish? do they really help significantly?

all my nutrient levels test zero...I read that reef central article on "vodka dosing"..any one trying that experiment?..

getting a better skimmer will be my last $$$$$$$$$$$$$ option.
