I've never had my Deltec MCE 600 overflow on me. I guess it could if the air nozzle is open too wide and the collection cup is too low or if the output pipe is blocked. But if you follow the included instructions you shouldn't have a problem.

With that said, the Deltec would be overkill for your 33g (although you could use the Deltec up to a 90g tank if you upgraded in the future). It's also pricey. If you're looking to save even more money you could wait for a used Remora to pop up. They are definitely more available on the used market than the Deltecs.
