Actually, an end to clear-cutting would probably create more jobs.
- It would necessitate a restructuring of the current forestry industry and administration would be required to plan and implement the changes.
- Sustainable development (silvaculture, etc) of lumber land means the same land could be used longer and more frequently than the current clear-cutting method.
- Alternatives to pulp paper, like hemp, would be encouraged to grow along with the lumber industry creating a whole new workforce.
- And in the long term, the surrounding areas would be far more attractive to developers, tourists, movie producers, wildlife, etc.
