Default BTA + Drain + Skimmer = lots of skimmate

The more time goes on, the more I think hooking up a skimmer directly to one of my tank's drains is a mistake. My tank went without light for a day because the electronic ballast I was using crapped out.... so my BTA started wandering. Last night, somehow, it managed to get past the gutterguard blocking my overflow, and got sucked into the drain that's feeding my skimmer. Long story short, my skimmer (direct drain fed, with a 900gph recirculation pump) blended my BTA up very nicely, and turned it into a nice and dark skimmate.

Skimmer victims so far:
1 false percula
1 bta

On the flip side, at least I know my skimmer works pretty well seeing how nothing is reacting badly even though a bta was basically turned into mush in the tank.
