Well, been playing with my brand spankin' new Nikon D70 for the last day and finally got a few photos that were... IN FOCUS!!!

It's really surprising how you can walk up to your tank, think "man, this is looking great!", and then see the photo on your computer and laugh at what a crappy tank that loser has until you realize it's yours... These things just ain't photogenic, eh?

Shots were all taken on automatic, some with flash, and in Photoshop I did auto balancing/auto levels to clean up the colour a bit. Any tips on getting true-to-life shots are welcome.



Ye frontal view. Currently a bit of a real estate problem as the Torches are a nightmare with the other corals. Once I find a nice place for them to not kill everything I can fill in the rest of the tank.


As I was saying... I get some wicked welts on my arms when I clean the tank. At first I thought it was something in the water until last night I realized I always brush up against it when I scrape one area of the glass and it's always madly sucking onto my arm.


Long Spine Diadema. I'm rather indifferent to it, but I do love watching my bicolour blenny pick on him.


Side view of the tank. Definitely a flash shot that didn't have to be... Note 4" DSB for my beloved pistol shrimp. It's actually 2" of crushed coral topped with 2" of aragonite.


The system from the front (flash again.. man I never see that salt creep otherwise). Not much to say.


The fuge/surge today. Nasty? Yep. I may dare cleaning the front glass, but there's an awful lot of crap in the crushed coral that I don't know I want to kick up, nor do I want to interfere with the pods breeding now that I have a mandarin. Only posted because a few people seemed interested in the initial photos when it was a pretty new tank. There's evolution, boys.


This is sort of the battered corals' clinic. Any corals that are beat up by something or looking lousy at the store end up down there for a while until they perk up. That front zone of the tank has strong water flow without a lot of durect current. Pictured are my branching green hammer and a brain from the store.


Don't these things always look like they're in a good mood?


And my "aquatic" area. I'm always interested in tank rooms vs. tanks so thought I'd post it for interest's sake. I've got my reef, brackish, FW, and day gecko all in the same location now. The gecko and brackish are on death watch (ie. old, not being actively restocked, and torn down once everybody's passed on). Yeah, the planted tank needs to be cleaned. That's what winter is for...
