hermits, snails what's the difference?

So I go to my favorite LFS, pick a cleaner shrimp and figure ask for a few hermits then start looking around the store. Bring them all home, put the bags in a dark bucket and start the drip, later toss them in the tank. Now I take a close look at the hermits only to find the LFS guy picked me 3 snails.
