Default Washing machine question (Kenmore problem)

Any one out there have a Kenmore elite washing machine (1999-2000 model)

We are having some weird problems with ours and the Sears repairman said it was the motor.. They want $400 to repair. See below for the info

Here is the story,

Since the minor leak (not ever time), nor a significant amount. The other day the wife went to wash close.. it started to fillm then would stop and do nothing. I tried it and sure enough it would fill a llittle bit and then stop. She left to go wash close at my parents place, I got the waster to wash a load of close,

We had repair guy out today (Monday Dec 27) he said since the pump was leaking, and we did not have someone in sooner, that the water leaked into the motor and has fried the motor (well I find this hard to believe ) I did some researched on the Net and found it could be the timer or the Fill Sensor.. The pump is a separate issue. This guy (who is a Sears repairman) Said its going to cost $400 to fix.. Is the motor involved in filling the washer?
