Unions, IMO are a blessing. On top of putting unions on your pump, I would also suggest putting on the pipe(s) extending from any bulkheads in your tank. If you're going to be running any longer stretch of piping, putting a union on the pipe would also be useful if you plan on ever modifying/moving your tank around (and who doesn't? ).
