I disagree... a properly setup AC300 would be a nice refugium for a smaller tank. I had an AC300 modified with an AC150 impeller on my LR holding tank. It worked just fine for the purpose I had in mind (growing out the small lump of chaetomorpha I had, and reducing waste products in the tank). Many people use modified AC filters as a refugium on nano tanks. Though if you're thinking about putting one on a larger tank, then no, it won't be as effective, but it'll still work.
