I have heard the same aswell and I knew someone would bring this up
 I have had mine now for almost a year now, he has been very happy  I have a large number fo fish who let him get "friendly." Mine also eats everything that goes into the tank, which includes me  Oh and I watched the new one eat in store aswell so I am crossing fingers.
