Are Candy Canes lethal?

So I changed my Koralia from full-time on to timed and my Candy Canes are happy & puffy and extending their tentacles, that's the good news.

The largest Candy Cane (8 heads) is close to a Xenia (about 2-3cm) which seems to have withered all of a sudden - since the flow change.

Are Candy Canes hostile to Xenia?
