Really, the bigger the better. Sumps help by increasing water volume but with a 20g, you will have maybe 12 gallons extra. Not only that, you will only have a 2' by 1' footprint to work with for your skimmer, heater, macroalgae, return pump, etc. I would go with at least a 3' 33g if not bigger. A bigger sump gives you more options, and a 20g will become cramped very quickly once you add baffles. JMO & JME.
