How to read floating thermometer/salinity gauge?

Hi everyone. How am I supposed to be reading my salinity on these floating thermometers? Do I read it from underneath the water or above? From above, the water climbs up the side of the glass tube. Do I read it below that or at the top of that water? I'm a little confused. Please help! Thanks in advance
