![]() I am setting up new a system. 65g DT with 25-30gal sump. I am using RLSS DC 5000 return pump at 4th speed which is about 1000gph a level zero. My return is about 1,5m high which makes 500gph at return point in DT is it enough for sump filtration or it is too slow? When I hold my hand in front of return nozzle I feel the flow but not crazy as I used to see. Is there any rule of thumb on flow rate in sump? Thank you

![]() My understanding is 6.1x total system volume for sump turnover rate
This is based on skimmer efficiency If your sump holds 20g at the end of the day, I'd say you've nailed it |

![]() You ideally want 3 to 5 times turnover per display tank. Flow can be supplemented in the display with powerheads. Before I was always big on tons of flow through sump even. Until recently tried to match water flow through skimmer with sump turnover, in doing so slowed my system a ton and getting way better skimmer performance and can't see any ill effects.

![]() So I can go even lower on sump flow since I have about 8 times my system volume. Thx.
