Default How does Vancouver work?

Ok I haven't been to the coast since I was a wee lad and I'm intrigued by how everything is Coquitlam or Burnaby or Rosedale. I know Calgary is larger by area than Vancouver, and depending on how you measure it, Calgary is even more populous than Vancouver (the actual "city" of Vancouver only has half a million people). So when we are talking about North Vancouver, Port Coquitlam and Abbotsford, are these municipalities similar to something I am more familiar with such as Ogden or Bowness or Harvest Hills, or the northeast or southwest, or Airdrie and Okotoks? In other words, are these neighbourhoods, communities, districts, boroughs, train stops, cities? Someone clarify for me. I guess this is somewhat similar to Toronto and its York, Newmarket and Mississauga.

So how far apart are they? Or do they run right into one another? And how many people live in each one roughly? And do they share street names and stuff?

they are pretty much all running into eachother.. of course some street names run through each other.. Population wise, its Vancouver then Surrey, Burnaby, Richmond, Coquitlam, Langely, Port Coquitlam, Abbobtsford, White Rock.. and the list goes on.. that looks about right though...

I'll see if I can find some better info for you..

the are all cities and pretty much beside each other.. some cities do share streets such as Burnaby and and Vancouver share a lot of major streets. I would say that each city is about 20-25 km in radius but not too sure.. yeah it is something like Toronto and york and all those little city. all these citys can be joined together and be called the Lower mainland much like how we refer to the metropolis of Toronto...hope I got that right......

Gorsh, that makes sense. I done been to Toronto recently and I shore ding-dangly did be impressed. This here old country boy don't know much 'bout the big city. Thankya for clarificatin'.

But seriously, that's good. I'll have to come check it out eventually. I briefly considered finishing my BA at UBC or SFU but it looks like I'll remain here in the flatlands for now. Maybe one of my post-grad degrees...

Its just like a bunch of towns joined together. Some are seperate by bridges, however they are all pretty much together.

Thats why they call it the Lower Mainland.
