Default Little Bad Luck :(

Well I found my Cleaner Shrimp dead on Monday... He ate that mourning then a few hours later... He ate no more

Today I came home to find a chunk missing out of my one eyed green chromis. I set up my sump with water from the tank (sump not operational yet) and moved him into there for now. He is swimming around like nothings wrong but didn't eat tonight...

When I went to put the sump tank under the stand I found my Flame Hawkfish in the bottom... He jumped into the empty overflow box and went down the hole

But on the bright side I am only a few days of having the sump in regular operation Just have to figure out if my chromis is going to make it...

Did the shrimp die or molt?

Default Overflow

I have a screen on my overflow. Maybe you should do that as well... either temporarily or permanently... to prevent more from taking the slide of death.

And a fish missing a chunk????? From what? Do you have a mantis or something in there?

I wonder... does anyone care enough to read signatures if you make them really small? I would not. I would probably moan and complain, read three words and swear once or twice. But since you made it this far, please rate my builds.

The shrimp molted then died. The one chromis lost his eye a little while back. The bite out of him I am not sure... He was the runt of the litter and I don't see any signs of abuse on any of the other fish. No predators that I know of, I do have one larger fish but he gets spooked from the smaller fish so... Anyways the chromis ended up not making it through the night

I am definatly going to be putting some more mesh around the overflow boxes as I have another jumper in the tank Hopefully with the next Flame I can keep him longer than a few months.

I also lost my Peppermint Shrimp I put in on Sunday... Hoping he is just hiding... But havn't seen him since he went in.

Default Hawkfish

Hawkfish are also know to kill or eat ornamental shrimp.

If you plan to have shrimp... maybe research that a little and see f yours falls into that category.

Yeah I knew that there was a chance that he would be picked on. The shrimp was almost the same size as the Flame thou and the cleaner shrimp was never bothered by the Flame... I guess with the new shrimp he got in a killing mood and probley killed the cleaner shrimp the next day then felt so bad he committed suicide

I've had my 2 peppermint shrimp for about 3 years now and for the first 6 months I couldn't find them again after initial placement. Now they come out of hiding whenever it's feeding time and will sometimes try to clean my hand when it's in the tank. My shrimp don't seem to like the light and are usually hiding when the lights are on. Trying searching for them a couple of hours after the lights go out with a flashlight. I have a 4" foxface and I can't even find him in the rock work some days (and my rocks are pretty open) so it's almost impossible to see a shrimp if it is hiding.

Thanks Jeff I certainly hope that he is there somewheres. I will be getting a few more anyways to help control the small aptasia. I guess I won't be getting another hawkfish though. I was lucky for a few months but its still a mystery.
