![]() I remember seeing a post in here a long time ago about what to do with your waste water from a RO/DI unit. Someone was talking about plumbing the waste water into his hot water tank. Any ideas on how to do this?

![]() I run mine outside to the fishpond, keeps the pond topped up and does not seem to cause any ill effects, the pond overflow in turn runs out into the garden to keep the fruit trees watered.

![]() If you're real ambitious, you can set your home up with a 'grey' water system. This will feed your toilet tanks with shower, bath, waste RODI, dishwater depending on how elaborate you want to go. I think all you need is some sort of pressurized holding tank to collect the water and either re-plumb your toilet tanks to it or have a valve so you can use either grey or fresh.
I use the waste in the garden in summer and lug buckets to the toilet in winter. Water is a little more precious here in the sunny Okanagan, or so the city/region officials will have us believe, since they keep cranking up the rates every year and put us on watering restrictions during the summer. http://www.bracsystems.com/ http://www.thenaturalhome.com/greywater.html http://www.gizmag.com/go/6810/

I would consider not putting any water into the tank that is not needed. The septic tank is healthier with the least amount of water possible passing through it. Bacteria in the tank break down products and the more bacteria there is, the more efficient your tank becomes. Adding water dilutes this process. Less bacteria per unit of effluent. Just my .02 cents |
