The tank was originally picked up off someone from Craig's List for free then rebuilt. The crack is in the same place as the original break, which leads me to suspect that somehow the framing or tank was built slightly off which causes the tank to burst in that same spot. The stand it is on is over-engineered using doubled 6x6 glued & screwed construction. It also has a full plywood top that I checked was level and perfectly smooth. The tank sat on it perfectly level and smooth. That's why I strongly suspect that the tank was originally built slightly off and why I will NOT be rebuilding this one again.

Irene WANTS another 6' tank to replace this one since this was her favourite tank that I've set up so far. Really lucky to have her for my wife. (Something I don't tell her enough).

It takes really bad things to happen sometimes to reveal the inner person and I must say, very impressed with Irene's inner person. Wayyyyy better attitude towards the whole disaster than I had any right to expect.

Anthony

Good luck with everything, I can not imagine what it's like to have a tank crack like that.. I'll bet it's the tank and that all the glass pieces are not square on all sides. I would take it apart and check every part just out of curiosity and if it is the bottom pane of glass have it cut narrower or get a new piece that is narrower and get a new front pane. some times when they cut thick panes of glass the end will run in ward and that is what I suspect happened to that tank the last little piece ran toward the center and is not that noticeable and was missed at the manufacturers. If I were there I would get it off you as I would like a 6 foot tank that is what my stand is built for anyways. I over build things my self..

Anyways good luck.
Bill

Oh no!! I would be suspecting the stand. It sounds like the tank is twisting in order to produce that corner to corner crack. I wouldn't put another tank on that stand.

I don't think it's the stand....... I think it's the tank.

He got the tank for free because the previous owner had the front panel crack on him.

He replaced it with a new panel of Starphire glass and put it on a new very highly engineered stand and it cracked in the exact same way and area.

Like Anthony said....... no need to risk it a 3rd time. Time for this tank to become a reptile tank.

Cheers,
Vic

I didn't realize it was a different stand this time. What exactly do you mean by "highly engineered"? If it is a standard rectangular shaped tank I have a hard time believing the problem is from the way the tank was built. Something would really have to be out of whack in the design, and one should be able to see it. It could very well be a case of coincidence too - weirder things have happened.
