Default Forget Plasma TV, I want a Heliodisplay

QUOTE---

Most of us remember the scene in the 1977 movie "Star Wars" in which the robot R2-D2 projects a three-dimensional image of Princess Leia, who begs Obi-Wan Kenobi for help: "This is our most desperate hour. Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope." Seeing that film years ago planted the desire in many of us to see this kind of technology brought to life. After all these long years of waiting, portable holography has finally arrived.
IO2 Technology announced that it has completed a working prototype of what the company is calling the Heliodisplay, a three-dimensional display that uses no screen whatsoever but can project TV, video and computer images into free space. The company's technology makes it possible for users to walk around -- or even through -- the floating images projected into air.

The unit, which is about the size of a bread box, can project images as large as 27 inches and will have the ability to expand to 150 inches with future releases. As far-fetched as it sounds, the device has interactive capabilities as well. Images can be manipulated just as though they were displayed on a conventional computer monitor, but instead of using a mouse, a viewer can use a hand to move an image or a finger to move the cursor and select an object.

Not only does it display video in the air, it is also touchscreen or should I say touch-air?

You can see the 3D Fish screensaver in one of these pics.

While we're on the subject of technology of the future: http://www.aip.org/physnews/graphics/html/teleport.htm

Any search on Google for "quantum teleportation" will give you a better idea of what this stuff is all about. So far they've only managed to move photons around, that is, a quantum within the visual spectrum (a quantum being the single smallest unit of electromagnetic energy possible, as I understand it), and they say it will never work on macroobjects (toasters, humans, more importantly frags), but I think that anything is possible when you have the theory behind it. We'll see. Interesting stuff, regardless.

Lovely TV, seems like the hue and intensity of the picture isn't so great as of yet though? What I don't get it how they make the light from the projector stop moving.

Alright, these other things are cool too and will be here in due time, maybe another 50-75 years. But this interactive video in the air stuff is available today for only $22,000 US.

After they start mass producing it, they predict it'll be around $5,000 US. Right now, each one is hand made. There are only 4 people in this company after-all.
