Default Finally isolated my Mantis shrimp....what diet is best?

Fed him some raw shrimp last night and he destroyed it in seconds. Is a smasher. Is this the usual food for it or should I mix in some brine shimp or mysis as well?

And how often should it be fed....is about 2.5 " in length.

wow, you caught a mantis!

I have one and I can't! I tried the bottle trick and all I got was a bottle full of cleaner shrimp and snails. No mantis.

He will eat anything, I think mine eats fish once in a awhile, as I have lost a few fish overtime, but could not find them... EVER! No carpet surfing, no dead bodies, one day there, the next gone.

Not finding bodies is pretty normal. A dead fish does not last too long. If you are lucky, you find a skull. I wouldn't take that as an indication that your mantis is hunting fish, though.

I think you are on the right track with the raw shrimp. I used to feed mine a piece maybe twice a week. Every now and again I would toss in a small live crab, which they really enjoy and it makes a great show for visitors.

silversides make a very affordable diet for them.
